Frequently asked questions
+How long does a typical flooring installation take?
Most residential installations wrap up in 1–3 days. A single room of luxury vinyl or laminate is often done in a day. Whole-home hardwood with sanding and finishing can run 4–7 days because each coat of finish needs time to cure. We give you a firm schedule after our in-home measure.
+Do I need to prepare the subfloor before installation?
Yes — a flat, clean, dry subfloor is the single biggest factor in how a floor looks and lasts. Our crew handles subfloor prep as part of the job: leveling low spots, grinding high spots, and moisture-testing concrete. If we find hidden damage, we show you before we cover it up.
+How do I clean luxury vinyl (LVP / LVT) floors?
Sweep or vacuum (hard-floor setting, no beater bar) a few times a week. For a deeper clean, damp-mop with warm water and a pH-neutral cleaner made for LVP. Skip steam mops, wax, oil soap, and abrasive pads — they can dull the wear layer or void the warranty.
+How do I clean and maintain hardwood floors?
Dust-mop or vacuum weekly. For cleaning, use a hardwood-specific cleaner (Bona or the finish manufacturer's brand) sprayed lightly onto a microfiber pad — never pour water on the floor. Add felt pads to furniture legs, keep humidity between 35–55%, and place mats at exterior doors.
+How do I keep carpet looking new?
Vacuum high-traffic areas twice a week and the rest once a week. Blot spills immediately with a clean white cloth — don't rub. Schedule a professional hot-water extraction every 12–18 months; most carpet warranties actually require it. We offer in-home carpet cleaning as well.
+What's the difference between laminate and luxury vinyl?
Laminate has a fiberboard core with a printed wood-look layer — it's rigid, budget-friendly, and great in dry areas. Luxury vinyl is 100% waterproof and softer underfoot, making it the better pick for kitchens, baths, basements, and homes with pets or kids.
+Is tile or vinyl better for a bathroom?
Both work. Tile is the premium, longest-lasting choice and pairs well with heated floors. Waterproof luxury vinyl installs faster, costs less, and is warmer underfoot. We help you weigh cost, timeline, and resale in the showroom.
+Can new flooring go over my existing floor?
Sometimes. Floating floors (LVP, laminate, engineered hardwood) can often go over vinyl or tile if the surface is flat and sound. Carpet and solid hardwood almost always require removal of the old material. We inspect during the free estimate and tell you either way.
+How soon can I walk on my new floors?
Luxury vinyl, laminate, carpet, and pre-finished hardwood: right away. Site-finished hardwood: light foot traffic in 24 hours, socks-only for 48–72 hours, and rugs / heavy furniture back after 7–14 days depending on the finish.
+Do you offer a warranty?
Yes. Every product carries the manufacturer's warranty, and our installation is warrantied by us. We register the paperwork for you and keep a copy on file so you never have to dig for it later.
+Do you provide free in-home estimates?
Yes — free, no-pressure, and typically within a week of your call. We measure, look at your subfloor, and email a written quote with product options at multiple price points.
+What areas of Northeast Ohio do you serve?
Painesville, Mentor, Concord, Chardon, Willoughby, Kirtland, Madison, and the surrounding Lake and Geauga County communities. If you're nearby and not sure, just call — we've been driving these roads since 1989.
Care guide by floor type
Luxury Vinyl (LVP / LVT)
- Sweep or vacuum on hard-floor setting a few times a week.
- Damp-mop with warm water and a pH-neutral LVP cleaner.
- Avoid steam mops, wax, oil soap, and abrasive scrubbers.
- Use felt pads under furniture; wipe spills promptly even though it's waterproof.
Hardwood
- Dust-mop or vacuum weekly with a soft-bristle head.
- Clean with a hardwood-specific spray (e.g. Bona) and microfiber pad.
- Keep indoor humidity between 35–55% year-round.
- Add walk-off mats at every exterior door and felt pads under furniture.
Laminate
- Dry-sweep or vacuum regularly to remove grit.
- Damp — not wet — mop with a laminate cleaner.
- Never let standing water sit on seams.
- Skip wax, polish, and abrasive pads that scratch the wear layer.
Carpet
- Vacuum high-traffic areas 2× per week.
- Blot spills immediately with a clean white cloth — never rub.
- Professional hot-water extraction every 12–18 months.
- Rotate area rugs and rearrange furniture occasionally to even out wear.
Tile & Stone
- Sweep or vacuum, then damp-mop with a pH-neutral tile cleaner.
- Reseal natural stone (travertine, marble, slate) every 1–2 years.
- Avoid vinegar and citrus cleaners on natural stone — they etch.
- Re-caulk wet-area joints when they crack to protect the subfloor.
Subfloor prep basics
- Flat within manufacturer spec (typically 3/16" over 10 ft).
- Concrete moisture-tested before installing wood or LVP.
- Squeaks and loose fasteners fixed before new flooring goes down.
- We handle all of this as part of a standard installation.
